Ring Size Guide
Straight answers to the questions people ask most about measuring ring size.
What if I am between two ring sizes?
Always choose the larger size. A ring that is slightly too big can be resized down more easily, and a looser fit is more comfortable. If you are right between sizes, consider the ring band width — wider bands sit higher on the knuckle and therefore fit tighter.
What is the average ring size for women?
The average ring size for women is a US 6 to 7, with size 6 being the single most common. That corresponds to an inner diameter of roughly 16.5 to 17.3 mm. Height, build and age all shift this, so treat the average only as a fallback when you cannot measure the actual finger.
What is the average ring size for men?
The average ring size for men is a US 10, which is an inner diameter of about 20.2 mm. Most men fall between a size 8 and a size 14. Men more often choose wide bands, and a band wider than 6 mm needs an extra half size to slide comfortably over the knuckle.
How does band width affect ring size?
Wider bands fit more snugly than narrower bands. If you are ordering a ring with a band wider than 6 mm, we recommend going up half a size from your measured diameter. For bands 8 mm and wider, go up a full size.
When is the best time of day to measure my finger?
Measure your finger in the evening. Fingers are typically at their largest at the end of the day due to normal fluid retention and activity. Morning measurements can be up to half a size smaller. Avoid measuring after exercise, in the cold, or after consuming a lot of salt.
Why should I use the Screen Sizer method?
The Screen Sizer is the most accurate method if you already own a ring that fits perfectly. By placing the ring directly on the calibrated screen, you eliminate guesswork about finger shape and measurement technique. The credit card calibration ensures your screen pixel density is accounted for.
How accurate is the Camera Sizer?
The Camera Sizer uses MediaPipe AI hand landmark detection and credit card reference calibration to achieve approximately half a millimetre of accuracy, which is well within the half-size tolerance of most ring manufacturers. For the most precise result, ensure good, even lighting and hold your hand flat.
Does the Camera Sizer upload my photos or video?
No. All AI processing runs entirely within your browser using local machine learning libraries. No photos, video frames, or biometric data are ever transmitted to our servers. Your privacy is fully protected.
How do I convert between US, UK, and EU ring sizes?
The easiest way is to use our ring size chart, which shows all four standards simultaneously: US, UK and Australia, EU and Germany, and India. The fundamental measurement is always the inner diameter in millimetres, so find your diameter on the chart to read across to every other standard at once.
Do ring size adjusters work?
Yes, for small corrections. A ring size adjuster is a clear silicone spiral, a plastic ring guard, or a sizing bead fitted inside the band. Adjusters comfortably take up about half to one full size and are a good fix for a ring that spins or slips off in cold weather. For a gap larger than one size, professional resizing by a jeweller is a better and more secure option.
My knuckle is larger than the base of my finger — which do I measure?
Measure both. The ring needs to pass over your knuckle, so it must be at least large enough to clear it. However, it should fit snugly at the base where it will rest. If there is a significant difference, consider a comfort-fit ring or consult with a jeweller.
Can I use a printable ring size chart instead?
Yes, but print it carefully. A printable ring size chart only works if it is printed at exactly 100% scale with page scaling and fit-to-page turned off. Always verify the printout by holding a credit card against the calibration box on the page before you measure. If the card does not match, the whole chart is the wrong scale.
Can I use this tool on my phone?
Yes. Both methods work on mobile browsers including Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android. The Camera Sizer uses your rear camera for better quality. No app download is required, simply open the website in your browser.
What if the ring I am measuring has a thick band?
When using the Screen Sizer, always measure the inner diameter of the ring, meaning the hole the finger goes through. For thick-set or signet rings, the inner circle is what matters for fit, not the outer diameter.
Still unsure of your ring size?
